Taste of Cuba

cuba, cocktail, mint, mojito, muddle
Wet your whistle with this refreshing cocktail-

Mojito

This refreshing cocktail recipe is from “Taste of Cuba”
& said to be “the original authentic recipe from Havana, Cuba”.

1 teaspoon powdered sugar
Juice from 1 lime (2 ounces)
4 mint leaves
1 sprig of mint
Havana Club white Rum (2 ounces)
2 ounces club soda
ice (preferably crushed)

Place mint leaves into a “collins” glass & squeeze lime over it.
You’ll want about two ounces of lime juice.

Add powdered sugar, & gently muddle mint into lime juice & sugar.
Add ice, then add rum, & stir. Top off with club soda.
Garnish with a fresh mint sprig.
Serves 1

A nice addition; run a little Ojai Jalapeรฑo Jelly around the glass-rim, then roll the rim in
a pretty cocktail sugar. Sometimes I do 1/2 of the rim in lemon sugar & the other 1/2 in lime salt.

โ†’enjoy

Let’s talk Venison

Deer Season

I’m not wild about venison myself, but I’m surrounded by people that LOVE it.

These sauce recipes would make bootstraps tasty…
If you have a tough piece of buck you’re trying to make a meal of this sauce will work its magic!

I tend to make a lot at a time but it’s easy to cut this recipe down to 1/4

Habanero Balsamic Sauce
โ†’Heat level 4
4 jars Ojai Habanero Jelly
1 c Balsamic Vinegar

Place ingredients in medium saucepan over medium heat.
Bring mixture to a simmer & reduce heat. Keep at a low simmer & stir occasionally.
Cook for 45-60 minutes.
Let cool on counter top, Cover & refrigerate. Keeps well for up to 2 weeks.

Mixture will thicken as it cools. Enjoy on venison, bbq’d chicken, vegetables +++

Habanero Marinate
can also be used as a glaze or sauce
โ†’Heat level 3
4 jars Ojai Habanero Jelly
1 can of Coca Cola (not diet)
2 T Worcestershire Sauce
1 fresh bay leaf

Place ingredients in medium saucepan over medium heat.
Bring mixture to a simmer & reduce heat. Keep at a low simmer & stir occasionally.
Cook for 45-60 minutes.
Let cool on counter top. Cover & refrigerate. Keeps well for up to 2 weeks.
If you want to get rid of the gamey flavor, use as a marinate.

Need a recipe? Send me a note at info@ojaijelly.com
& let me see what I can come up with!

enjoy

Green Cleaning Solution

prell - radiantly alive

prell beach babe

Marilyn always makes this great cleaning solution- That’s my mum โ†‘
I always keep some at the ready-
It smells so CLEAN & FRESH-
It’s great for washing windows, counters, sinks, walls, etc.
I wouldn’t use it on my hair though— I’d probably go from brown to blonde!
Not that there’s anything wrong with blonde!

1/2 gallon distilled water
8 oz. isopropyl alcohol
1 T. PRELL

Mix together & use in a spray bottle.
This solution works very well with the mocrofiber cloths but I hate the way they feel-
I prefer a cotton towel or paper towel.

American Heart Association “Beach Ball”

AHA-Beach-Ball-heart-ring

The American Heart & Stroke Association (Santa Barbara Chapter)

May 3, 2014

The American Heart Association presents โ€œHeart Beach Ball,โ€ an event to raise funds for research and initiatives preventing heart disease.ย  The American Heart Association is committed to helping our children live stronger, healthier lives with education, research and public policies that effect where they live, learn and play.
New information in the areas of congenital heart defects, heart transplants in children, cholesterol levels in teens and diabetes rates in children as well as adolescents
are just a few areas we are currently investigating.

For the second year we are continuing our fight against youth obesity, a major risk factor for heart disease and stroke, in Santa Barbara County.
The Healthy Futures Program seeks to empower students and their families to make healthier lifestyle choices by providing them with an understanding
of heart disease, nutrition education and encouraging them to be more physically active.

Dr. Joseph Aragon & the AHA team outdid themselves again!
Fun was had by all that attended-
Inspiring stories of life changing events were shared by special guests-

Zaca Mesa 2012 Viognier

Zaca Mesa Winery
2012 Viognier
Serve cool 40โ€ข – 45โ€ข F

Zaca Mesa Winery is one of my all time favorite wineries-
I didn’t like white wines until I discovered their lovely Viognier.

Pairs well with;

โ™ฆThai chicken
โ™ฆRaw oysters
โ™ฆGrilled Ahi
โ™ฆ Chicken Satay

BBQ chicken skewers
Make a dipping sauce of
Ojai Jalapeรฑo Jelly (heat level 3)
or
Ojai Habanero Jelly (heat level 4)
Mix equal parts of Ojai Pepper Jelly
with Fresh Ground Peanut Butter
Makes a quick & easy โ€œsatayโ€ to dip chicken
skewers in-

โ™ฆ Grilled Ahi

Dip one flat-side of a 1โ€œ thick fresh Ahi steak in
a mixture of horseradish aioli & sour cream,
then dredge the same side in Mediterranean
โ€œDukkahโ€ or black sesame seeds.
Fry hot & fast for 2-minutes a-side.
Garnish with a fresh lemon wedge & parsley.
Always have a squirt-bottle of
Ojai Pepper Jelly
ready to decorate your plate with a
half-moon shape around edge to compliment
your meal-

enjoy!
